Pizzas Dropping from the Sky

admin BRANDS, FUTUROLOGY, RETAIL, TECHNOLOGY

Next time you’re feeling hungry look to the skies because that ‘speck’ on the horizon might just be your Four Seasons pizza being delivered!

With the ever increasing ‘buzz’ around the use of drones it’s probably one of the more logical uses of the technology, given that most pizza delivery companies are mainly urban and, as a car driver, it has to be an improvement on the death-defying moped riding delivery driver. Though, I guess it won’t replace the myriad of super-power cartoon characters on the side of the road waving price promotion boards.

The detail? Domino’s Pizza have released a YouTube video showing a test drone delivery in New Zealand. It seems the first drone test went well, with the pizza arriving without major damage — save for a little cheese stuck to the top of the box. This isn’t anything new for Domino’s, who did something similar in the UK in 2013 although that was with a commercial large-scale drone whilst this is the first time with the current design of affordable drones.

Take a look at the video below – these guys are obviously happy to see their pizza being delivered – they must be hungry –  or maybe they work for Domino’s?

It seems Domino’s are serious about drone deliveries, Reuters reporting the company is testing the technology in in Australia, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Japan and Germany. Domino’s CEO, Don Meij making the obvious point “We’ve always said it doesn’t make sense to have a 2-ton machine delivering a 2-kilogram order.”

And when one comes along, there’s always another; 7-Eleven last month trialled drone delivery of a chicken sandwich, donuts, coffee, candy and Slurpee. Not bad for a Meal-Deal!?

Looks like the guys at Just Eat and Deliveroo might need to do some NPD work; #JustFly #Flyeroo maybe?
