Whistlestop Retail-OOH: New Media Sector?

admin MEDIA OWNERS, RETAIL

Anyone passing through London’s Victoria or Paddington rail stations – and there maybe be others – can’t fail to notice brand advertising appearing in the windows of familiar CTN outlets. Okay, these brands are stocked in-store, but there’s no doubt the retailer are starting to monetise their otherwise blank spaces creating additional revenues.

Perhaps to support this assumption, WH Smith‘s recent financial reporting commented that their travel outlets (e.g. rail, airports, etc) are outperforming their High Street stores. Take a look at our recent articles looking at WH Smith at Victoria rail station and LDN Heathrow T5.

The latest in this trend (that we’ve seen) is at Whistlestop at Paddington featuring ads for McCoys (crisps), which has great impact given there’s no other OOH or DOOH present on the station concourse.

The really interesting – and exciting – prospect is will these first few examples grow? Most retailers have consumer facing space that could be exploited. Window installations, such as WHS and Whistlestop has great impact which could be further enhanced by the addition of digital-signage too. #Interesting.
